Senior Engineer – Electrical Cabling

Responsibilities:

TECHNICAL

  • Knows how to perform complex engineering analyses and develop complex deliverables within discipline
  • Applies standard engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimating
  • Understands standard contract requirements and scope as they relate to discipline work
  • Knows technical issues related to discipline and how to discuss with third parties (customer, suppliers, and regulators)
  • Knows how to coordinate technical issues within discipline, with other disciplines, and with engineering staff
  • Understands roles played by other departments on projects
  • Familiar with methods of procurement, including bid and evaluation process
  • Knows electrical equipment and material
  • Knowledgeable in the overall work requirements outside of the discipline.
  • Experienced with leading a group of engineers and/or designers within the discipline
  • In-depth knowledge of specific standards
  • Understands industry Norms and procedures
  • Capable of analyzing and understanding Client’s requirements and standards.
  • Ability to revise existing standards
  • Understands EDP’s (Engineering Design Procedure) and their application on projects.

Key Competencies / Skills

  • Reviews and leads the production of higher-tier Drawings, Reports and Calculations
  • Thorough Knowledge of Design of high-voltage cables up to 380 kV AC and 450kV DC
  • Thorough Knowledge of Design of underwater / offshore high-voltage cables
  • Thorough Knowledge of cable sizing calculation and cables selection using CYMAP
  • Thorough Knowledge of cables screen thickness calculation
  • Thorough Knowledge of overall power cables system engineering during the detailed engineering phase including routing, cross bonding…etc.
  • Thorough Knowledge of overhead transmission lines (OHTL) calculations and sizing
  • Thorough Knowledge of overhead transmission lines (OHTL) routing selection, feasibility studies and site assessment
  • Leads technical discussions with customer and supplier
  • Reviews and coordinates documents from other disciplines, customer and outside agencies
  • Coordinates reviews with other disciplines and departments
  • Prepares and presents reports for formal studies
  • Capability of activities management and milestones based on scope of work description
  • Capability of defining the input data needed for different sizing calculations
  • Capability of reviewing reports, conclusions and recommendations driven by results from the calculations
  • Capability of tracking the schedule of activities
  • Capability of presenting the results to different parties and highlighting the key issues to the Client/WSP
  • Large project field assignment.

Qualifications:

  • Recognized degree in engineering or technical field from an accredited college or university and specialized courses in Electrical discipline plus applicable practical work experience. Minimum, Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 8 to 14 years of experience in Cable engineering EHV and HVDC cable
